ATTORNEY PROFILE
Kate Rockas has been practicing exclusively in the area of family law for over twenty years.
She has handled all aspects of family law including divorce, division of property, custody and visitation, child support and spousal support, modifications to custody and support orders, and domestic violence restraining orders. In addition,
she has prepared prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
Ms. Rockas has been certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California since 1999. In order to be certified as a Family Law Specialist in California, an attorney must demonstrate a high level of experience in the specialty field, pass a rigorous written examination, fulfill ongoing education requirements and be favorably evaluated by judges and other attorneys familiar with their work. Only a small percentage of practicing family law attorneys in California receives such a certification.
Ms. Rockas has volunteered as a panelist for settlement conferences for the Marin County Superior Court and she has volunteered for the court on the self-represented litigant’s calendar. She was Chair of the Family Law section of the Marin County Bar Association in 2000. She has been on the board of directors for Marin County Women Lawyers since 2005 and was President of that organization in 2008 and 2009. She has been on the board of directors for the Marin County Bar Association since 2009 and am currently the editor of the Bar Association’s newsletter The Marin Lawyer.
Ms. Rockas is effective in guiding her clients through the divorce process and moving it toward resolution. When she first meets with a client, they often feel like their situation is unmanageable and chaotic. By educating them about the legal process and their rights, we create a structure for moving the matter toward resolution. This provides stability for the client in an uncertain and confusing time of their life and allows them to begin to look to the future.
Ms. Rockas understands how stressful a divorce can be. It impacts almost every aspect of a family’s life, especially when children are involved. She always advises her clients of the pros and cons of settling issues versus litigating them. She is known for her fair and logical approach to resolution of the various issues in my cases. She is a good listener, is empathetic and very compassionate. She is very thorough in preparing her cases, whether they are settled by agreement between the parties or resolved by a judge in court.
